Ain’t I A Woman?

The black woman is a perfectly defined idea awakened by the breath of life, yet her appeal is betrayed by negative depictions such as the mammy, jezebel, tragic mulatto and sapphire. These stereotypes are the primary cause of the suffocation of the black woman and is exercised daily as common acceptable interactive behavior towards them. Through deconstructed collages, these stereotypes bring awareness and show how society perceives black women which resulted in forcing them on the outside of the enclave of respectability among other aspects of society constructed definition of a “true woman“.
